Wehrpass – Medic! Eastern Front Medal! Bad Kissingen!
Halbig was from Hammelburg in Unterfranken Germany.
Was a farm worker, attended the Volksschule.
He stated his service in Landesschützen Batl in 1940, later with
Infantry Regiment 645 under the 358 Infantry Division – note on his unit entry – target Krakau!
He was taught how to shoot the K98, and was trained as a Medic/Krankentrager – or Wounded soldier carrier.
He won the Eastern Front Medal with the 183 Infantry Division in Russia. He seems to have gotten a code 34 wounding – which stands for a Accident or Self Mutilation.
He went on to serve as a medic in San.Komp 2/219 and would take part in the 1942 winter battles in positions near Gshatsk Subzoff , as a part of Heeres Gruppe Mitte, he would serve on the Russian
Front till 13.8.1943.
He was sent back to a Hospital to spend the rest of the war in Bad Kissingen Germany with Sani Abt 13! – famously known for its truce with US Forces in 1945.
