His unit was destroyed in Normandy on 2.10.1944 by the allies, and his unit was reduced to a Kampfgruppe – making its way to St Nazaire in 1944 to become a part of the Atlantic Festung! (Atlantic Fortress).
The War would not end for the men at St Nazaire till 1945, 30,000 German soldiers were BESIEGED from 27th August till 11 May 1945!
It would be the last freed French Town in the war!
Medals – KVK 2nd Class with Swords, and the Eastern Front medal.
Also included items that were in the back cover – two pictures, a list of items, and three Merkblatt for the Soldbuch – Including the one for Malaria and for Gas Attacks!
