What is the album? Who is it from? What are the Pictures off?

The Obergammau Album and Hitler Signed picture.

The album is rare evidence that demonstrates the close ties with the NSDAP and the Church in the early days of Hitlers leadership. It contains a rare glimpse into the life of a young German Actress who was in love with both Christianity and Adolf Hitler. It exposes how Hitler created a faith inside a faith, which turned a God loving and noble people into a people that would commit unquestionable atrocities without questioning what they were doing. It serves as a reminder of the how the Holocaust and the Second World War was made possible in ways which are rarely covered in modern study or are not known by the majority today. The start of the Photo Album relates to a little known today Play that covered the last days of Jesus Christ, called the Obergammau Passion play. The Obergammau Passion play was as many have cited a play hijacked by the Nazi Party in order to mix healthy religious beliefs in 1930s Germany with sick and unjustified hate against the Jews. The play was modified and tweaked, from simple sentences to entire scenes in a way that would serve Hitlers purpose – entice hate. In order to stir ancient suspicions and outdated stereotypes on Jews, who were at that time an integral part of German Society (with over 600 years of Jewish German history and relations) – Hitler had to break down the ideals set by thousands of years of theology and reset the building blocks of Christianity in a way that would turn the German people into a more mailable society. A society in which he could later mold with more extreme propaganda, backed by an evil ideology of superiority and eugenics which would effect not only the Jews of Europe but the people of Europe itself. In order to move extreme right wing ideology into mainstream opinion he needed to attack the edifice of the belief system. In carrying out a hijacking of public mind and opinion it was imperative that he had the German People in a state of mind he wanted and needed in order to fulfill his evil and demented thus a plan on attacking the edifice on the believe system was inevitable – Religion. Hitler used Christianity in his early years as Chancellor as an advocate in order to manipulate the German People in removing the vow to love your neighbors and respect other religions to be suspect and stereotype others thus fostering hate, exactly the opposite of what Christianity teaches. In creating this paradox he manipulated the building blocks of Christianity in order to indoctrinate the German People. The power religion had on both the people of Germany and on Political Plans can be demonstrated by one example the – T4 Aktion.

Religion had a hold not only on the German people, the Church was an obstacle that proved to effect Hitlers early demented and murderous plans, specifically the T4 Actions conducted before the outbreak of war – the murder and sterilization of German “undesirables” such as the mentally disabled, sick and vulnerable. The power of the Church had been instrumental in putting an end to his lunatic plan to erase the weakest and vulnerable within its society. Sadly the Church did not offer such a remedy or blockage to Hitlers plans in the erasing the Jews of Europe. Not only was his aim in rebuilding a highly religious and noble people into skeptical and enraged people, but to create in those very individuals two saviors – Adolf Hitler and Jesus Christ. The album demonstrates this love for both, but in an innocent and unwittingly way just how he had wanted it, the seed was planted at events like the Passion Play and the love and devotion for both the new and old saviors is demonstrated in the rare pictures in this album. The album serves as a shocking reminder of how he hijacked the entire German People of whom seen him as a savior. Only if they knew in less than ten years later they would be loosing a world war which they started and the “Thousand Year Reich” would be on brink of falling in on itself, and they had, hand in hand facilitated and were wholly instrumental in the systematic destruction of European Jewry. The famous American Henry Ford a powerful millionaire and a raven antisemite supported the play and was said to have personally attended it.

The Passion play at Obergammau would continue to be shown during Hitlers evil reign and became a quasi pilgrimage for religious Germans. The play continues today in a more moderate form and has been adjusted through the years after the war. Documents or Pictures of the Obergammau Play during the Third Reich are extremely rare, most items or evidence showing what extent it was supported or backed by Hitler are few and far between.

There is only a small set of fuzzy and distant pictures of Hitler at a the play, but the close up contained in the album is by far the best picture that was taken of his visit there, behind Hitler is the actor who played Jesus. The second part of the album shows the same devotion for Hitler as shown for God and what was for many Germans during Hitlers Third Reich another pilgrimage to Obersalzburg – the new Home of Hitler and many of his top advisors and Generals such as Hermann Goering, Albert Speer, Martin Bormann. Which is situated near the beautiful idillic village of Berchtesgaden. The second part of the album shows shortly after the Passion play many unseen and rare pictures of Adolf Hitler, Bladur von Schirach and Rudolf Hess at Hitlers Alpine Retreat – The Berghof or as it was known in the early days as Haus Wachenfeld. What is different about these private pictures is the fact that they have been taken close and personal in front of Hitler, behind the SS guards. One of which is taken at the back door of Hitlers house, there is no other picture known of the back entry of Hitlers house. Which demonstrates that the young German actress was entrusted.

One picture shows Hess, Von Schirach and Hitler standing as the crowds swarm past under close watch of the SS towards the famous Hotel Turken and past Hitlers view. The picture details the sign in front of Hitlers house again no known picture was close enough to make out was wrote there. Another picture of Hitler is taken from point blanc range, he is grinning at the camera with a view of Hotel Turken in the background. From assessment of the pictures it is safe to state that the young German actress is entrusted to get close to him, this is the second occasion. It must be said that it was not easy to get near Adolf Hitler due not only to his extreme paranoia but the paranoia of the SS entrusted with protecting him.

Latter in the war it was difficult to get close to the new complex on the site of Haus Wachenfeld, the Obersalzburg had turned from idillic to a fortress, armed SS, check point system, tunnels and Flak guns would guard Hitler and the Third Reichs hierarchy making it impossible for the crowds to see him spontaneously or to visit when it was not organized. Hitler made most of his decisions in the Berghof, such as the invasion of Russia in 1941 and endless other schemes and plans that would affect millions across the world. In 1945 Himmler and the SS wanted it to be the place of final resistance and attempt to get Hitler down to the Alpine retreat and out of Berlin which was encircled by the Red Army. He did not want to go and died in the Führer-Bunker in Berlin in 1945. The Berghof and the complex around it was seen by the Allies in 1945 as a trophy and there was a race to get there between French and American forces. By the time both armies arrived the Berghof was in flames due to Allied bombing, today it is ruins in a young forest, off the tourist trail and largely forgotten. The signature – it was loose inside the album, displays a hand signature of Adolf Hitler in pencil which was common during the thirties simply because it did not blot or smudge, thus sticking better and was not susceptible to fading. It has been assessed by the leading authority in the USA and he has dated it around 1933-1934. The picture itself was commissioned by Hitler and taken by Heinrich Hoffmann his personal and entrusted state photographer, it displays Hitler as the new Reich Chancellor.

Both the Picture and signature date to his early days as Chancellor, 1933/1934 which ties in with the pictures in the album. It must be stated that original signed pictures of Hitler are extremely uncommon for two reasons, it was hard to get close to him to ask for such a signed picture and secondly he didn’t sign many items, most common signatures can be found on military paperwork or documents but rarely on a picture or personal item.

Thus making signed Hitler pictures not only extremely rare but they demand high premiums in todays collector and antique market.

Conclusion The previous owner of the album and signature was the granddaughter of the original owner. She contacted me and stated she wanted to sell this item after deciding not to burn it on finding it when her grandmother passed away. Like so many items in the past years they are destroyed or thrown out to avoid attention and as a part of the process of forgetting family evolvement with the Nazis commonly known as German guilt. It was agreed on the sale of the items that the family would remain anonymous.

it must be added that not all pictures are shown in the listing! The album is full from cover to cover with interesting pictures, South Bavaria, Königsee, Berchtesgaden and much more!
