Description
KIA Soldbuch Normandy 1944 CHERBOURG! BULLET HOLE! BLOODSTAINED! Regiment List
Here we have once in a lifetime chance to buy a Soldbuch from a Normandy fighter, with signs of combat and is clearly bloodstained. Note how the fast moving bullet or round shaped piece of shrapnel tore through the Soldbuch at high speed clipping the edge of the book and every page and the hard cover, slicing through it.
His unit in Normandy was – Grenadier Regiment 1049
Allied forces he faced and was killed by – 82nd Airborne and the 9th US ID.
They defended the Cherbourg Peninsula, he was one of 8,000 to be Killed on the Peninsula.
He arrived what looks to be on the 3.6.1944 in Normandy after his leave with his last unit. Little did he know that on the other side of the Channel – D-Day was going ahead!
They fought under the 77th Infantry Division. See pictures for more information.
The item was found in Germany in 2016 and came directly from the family this was never in a collection.
The only scenario that places this amazing Soldbuch back in the families hands that I can think off is that he died of his injuries whilst still with German soldiers, they took his Soldbuch on his death and got it somehow back to his family.
Hence it was coupled with his death card – Not often to have the death card and the Soldbuch from the same man.
He is buried in Normandy – Volksbund information states he was buried in Block 17, 9th Row grave number 321 in Orglandes/Manche.
His date of death was 20.7.1944 on the Cherbourg Peninsula.
I was able to locate detailed information on the Unit in both German and English. (See Pictures)
His awards page –
1942 – Eastern Front Medal
1942 Black Wounds Badge
1943 – Iron Cross Second Class – Won under the 7th ID – whilst in Russia.
Also note his Soldbuch Picture – taken when he was with Grenadier Regiment 19 (nice slide on numbers on his shoulder boards). The unit was awarded with the name of Regiment List – Named after Hitlers Unit that he served with in WW1.
This is a rare chance to own a very rare and history packed Soldbuch!
