WWII German Wehrmacht Soldbuch ID & Award Documents – Tech-Oberinspektor Josef Friesch – Festungs Artillerie Stab 7 – Iron Cross (Layaway)

SKU: HV1361 Category:

Description

Interesting Grouping to an interesting career Wehrmacht Soldier / Officer.

Friesch served with Flak Regiment 25 pre-war and then was assigned to a Technical Inspection Role, which was not free from the fight, clearly as he was awarded the Iron Cross!

1939 – 1940

Festungs Artillerie Stab 7

Very little is known about this Fortress unit, although according to the Soldbuch there is clear indication that they fell under the Generalkommando XXIV Armee Korps. ¨

His Iron Cross Second Class  – Award Document confirms this 20.7.1940 – Gen Kdo XXIV AK – signed by an unknown Generallt.

At the time of the awarding this would have been

Festungs -Lehrabteilung Lager

The village of Althöfchen was located on the northwestern edge of the military district on the Obra River. Today, the village is called Stary Dworek, belongs to the municipality of Bledzew, and lies in Poland, about 20 km southwest of Skwierzyna (Schwerin). There were no barracks in the town. In the autumn of 1944, the Festungs Lehr Abt was stationed there, which was then transferred west to form Festungs Lehr Batl 112.

It is clear that by January 1945 his unit was sent to the West, the War Merit Cross with Sword with Award certificate shows the signature of General der Flieger Karl Kitzinger who was at that time the leader of Oberbefehlshaber im Festungsbereich West.

Weapons – he has his Own Walther PK Pistol.

Other Awards, Medal for the 1st October 1938, Luftwaffe 12 Year (3rd Class) Service Medal.

Some extra paperwork include award certificates, drivers Licence, Sports Badge Booklet with Weimar era Uniformed Photo.

Nice lot, and could be the basis of further research as the units sadly do not have much information online.
